USA Women’s Hockey Plays for Gold Against Canada โ TODAY at 1:10 PM ET
The rivalry of rivalries reaches its climax.
At 1:10 PM ET today, Team USA women’s hockey faces Canada for Olympic gold in what will be the seventh USA-Canada final in women’s Olympic hockey history.
Why This Is Everything:
- Team USA has been dominant โ outscored opponents 31-1 in the tournament
- Five straight shutouts, including a historic 5-0 win over Canada in group stage (first time Canada ever shut out at Olympics)
- Goalie Aerin Frankel has three consecutive shutouts โ first goalie in Olympic women’s hockey history to do so
- Captain Hilary Knight’s fifth and final Olympics โ seeking her second gold medal and a “storybook ending”
- Knight is one goal away from breaking USA’s all-time Olympic goals record (currently tied at 14)
Canada’s Counter-Punch:
Marie-Philip “Captain Clutch” Poulin is back after missing the group stage game. She’s scored game-winning goals in all three of her previous Olympic golds (2010, 2014, 2022) and just became the all-time leading goal scorer in women’s Olympic hockey history with 20 career goals.
The Stakes:
- USA has won 2 Olympic golds in women’s hockey (1998, 2018)
- Canada has won 5 (2002, 2010, 2014, 2022)
- USA is seeking revenge for the 3-2 loss in Beijing 2022
- Team USA mantra: “Flip the script”

๐ THIS DAY IN HISTORY: 40 YEARS AGO
Space Station Mir Launched (1986)
On this day 40 years ago, the Soviet Union launched the space station Mir, beginning a new era in space exploration.
“Mir” means both “peace” and “world” in Russian. The station provided the home base for a permanently manned international complex orbiting Earth and was occupied for 10 years of its 15 years in orbit.
Mir paved the way for the International Space Station and proved that humans could live and work in space for extended periods. It was a symbol of what humanity can achieve when we reach for the stars.
